Pop Quiz, Monday with Scarlett Hyde

The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.

Can you please tell everyone your name?

Scarlett Hyde

What is your job role? Founder and Director

Tell us about your company? White Glove Services is an International Lifestyle Management Agency. We specialise in assisting HNW, VIP, Royal, Celebrity & Executive families. Services we provide include Nannies, Governesses, Maternity Nurses, Personal Assistants, Butlers, Personal Chefs, Personal Stylists, as well as Aviation and Boating Crew.

What do you love most about your job? I love that it doesn’t feel like a grind to go to work because I genuinely love my job. White Glove Services assists in the smooth running of our clients’ everyday lives which allows our clients to focus and create even more success in their careers.

The diversity of our clients’ requirements means we never get bored or feel like its groundhog day, and every day is different as every enquiry that comes through is unique. We are assisting the family, or the individual rather than the corporate side of our clients and I love that aspect.

What motivates you to get up every day and go to work? I think to be a successful entrepreneur you must love what you do. I work long hours, 6/7 days a week, not because I have to, but because I want to. The lives of our clients’ aren't Monday – Friday 9 – 5, so neither is mine.

I want to make a difference in peoples lives, and I also want to motivate my team and lead by example.

How do your co-workers inspire you? Most of my co-workers have worked in this industry in their previous careers, they know and understand first hand our clients’ needs and how important it is to be that reliable support. We all share the same passion for the industry, and it’s also refreshing to work with people who are as motivated as I am.

How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)? White Glove Services hosts seminars and training for all of our staff, not just our immediate office staff. So if we are hosting a training session for our nannies, we channel our inner child – yes, that means everyone is hands-on with new games, songs, dances, educational activities, and other industry trends, it’s hilarious!

We have a very relaxed workspace, and I think employing people who share the same vision makes every day enjoyable.

What are some of the challenges of your job? White Glove Services receives some unique requests from our clients, often very last minute requests, such as, “we need someone within the hour.”

Often sometimes this means getting up and jumping on the computer and phone at 2 or 3 am and ensuring achieve seamless coordination of the clients’ requirements.

What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us? It’s OK to say “no.” As a business owner, we want to take on every opportunity. In some cases, this can be more damaging to the brand. Learning to say “no” was hard, but it was one of the best lessons yet.

What advice would you give to someone who is starting in your industry? You’re not going to get it right every time but when mistakes are made, don’t dwell, look at it as an opportunity to learn how to do things differently and keep going.

Network as much as you possibly can and get to know the ins and outs of the industry as you will be able to serve your clients more efficiently!!
